50TH ANNIVERSARY MISSION BREAKFAST
An Overwhelming Success! If you have not yet heard yet,
the 50
th
Anniversary of the William J. McClafferty, III, Breakfast
of Champions for the Mission was the event of the year! This
year's program, held March 4th at Christ Our King Church, was
a memorable affair. The annual event recognizes the contribu-
tions and the Missionary efforts of students in the Diocesan
Elementary Schools and Religious Education programs.
Awards are given for the highest per capita and total contribu-
tions to the top performing Parish programs.
In addition to recognizing students as Mission Champions, for
the past 50 years the Delaware Knights of Columbus have
been setting the example with a fund Drive for the Missions.
This year, I am happy to announce that we will contribute in
excess of $5,000.00 for the Missionary efforts of the Diocese.
There is still time to make a donation to this years fund drive. If
you, or your council, have not yet sent a donation please for-
ward it to my attention: 24 Bristol Lane, Newark, DE, 19711.
When called upon, the Delaware Knights never fail to practice
our principle of Charity!
During this milestone occasion, Past State Deputy, William J.
McClafferty, III, was recognized for his 50 years of dedicated
service to the Breakfast of Champions for the Missions. Our
Brother Bill, who has not stepped out of the kitchen for the past
50 years, took a seat of honor next to Bishop Saltarelli and
actually ate Breakfast! But this was just the beginning. Bill
was presented with an award from the Past State Deputies
Association, a Tribute from the Delaware House of Represen-
tatives, presented by long time friend of the McClafferty family
and Brother Knight, Rep. Gerry Brady, and a Proclamation
from Wilmington City Council presented by Deputy Grand
Knight, City Councilman Paul Ignudo, Jr.
To close the festivities, Bishop Saltarelli presented an award to
Bill, on behalf of all of his Brother Knights in the state Dela-
ware, recognizing his 50 years of dedicated and faithful service
to the Breakfast of Champions for the Missions.
Bill was truly surprised at all of the accolades he received stat-
ing, "You really put one on me. I was so surprised that all of my
children were there, to get me all the awards I got, and how
you got the big shots to come."
An event of this magnitude would not be the success it is year
after year with out the support of my Brother Knights' sacrifices
of time, talent, and treasures. I am truly grateful for the support
you have shown, but more importantly, the support you show
to the Missions and helping individuals around the world who
are in desperate need of care and compassion. May God Bless
you all!

A Beef and Beer Fundraiser, co-sponsored by the Delaware Knights
of Columbus District 5 and the Marydel Volunteer Fire Company is
scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2007 from 6pm until 10pm at the
Marydel Firehall. All proceeds from this event will benefit Grand
Knight Carmine A. Poppiti, Jr., who is recovering from a kidney trans-
plant. Cost is $15 per person. In addition to the food and refresh-
ments, there will be a silent auction and baked goods sale. A DJ will
be spinning tunes for your enjoyment.
Fr. McGivney founded our great Order so brother Knights would help
each other's families at times of crisis. So, come and join other
Knights of Columbus families for a fun evening of great food and fra-
ternity while helping another KofC family at their time of need. Be
there for Carmine! Donations also accepted.
