So, brothers, with Spring on the way, let's get out there and give it that
big push to make this 2006-2007 Columbian Year another year of
much success in Delaware!
For additional information or questions contact Leon Gratkowski, State
Program Director
Pray that we will never fail on Iife's journey, that in heart and
mind, in word and deed, in days of turmoil and in days of calm,
we will always look to Christ and say, "Who is this that even
wind and sea obey him?'' Our Lady Queen of Peace, in whom
all storms grow still, pray at the dawn of the new millennium
that the Church, will not cease to show forth the glorious face
of your Son, full of grace and truth, so that God will reign in the
hearts of all peoples and they will find peace in the worlds' true
Savior. Plead for the Church that she may have strength to
follow faithfully the way of Jesus Christ, to tell courageously the
truth of Jesus Christ, to live joyfully the Iife of Jesus Christ.
O HeIp of Christians, protect us! Bright Star of the Sea, guide
us! Our Lady Queen of Peace, pray for us!
Vivat Jesus!
Father Philip Siry,
State Chaplain
CHAPLAINS MESSAGE (Continued)
Our Catholic Elementary Education Scholarship Raffle is over,
and the presentation dinner has been scheduled for Tuesday
evening, May 24 at St. Pius Council Home beginning at 5pm.
Twenty-two of our thirty councils in Delaware participated in
ticket sales. Unfortunately, the effort wasn't enough to con-
tinue our legacy of awarding two scholarships to every Catholic
elementary school in Delaware. Combining the money raised
through the Scholarship Raffle with the money raised by the
Football Pool sales, we are only able to award one scholarship
to each school. Since this program benefits the children who
may be our future Catholic civic leaders, and since it is the
favorite State KofC activity of Delaware's #1 Knight, Bishop
Saltarelli, we are very reluctant to abandon it. If you have any
ideas concerning increasing participation in this program, or
changing it in order to increase participation and bring in more
funds, please contact State Secretary Andy Elisee or me. We
want to do whatever it takes to provide two scholarships to
each school next year. I would like to thank our Worthy State
Warden Larry Gardner and Worthy Master Ralph Rossi for
chairing these two important fundraisers.
Spring is on the way, so KofC activity is on the rise. By early
April, the Membership Blitz campaign should be over, and 1
st
Degrees scheduled to bring these new members into the Or-
der. Although the Blitz may be over, that doesn't mean the
game is over, too. Every activity is an opportunity to offer the
benefits of Knights of Columbus membership to eligible Catho-
lic gentlemen. Be sure to set-up information tables at all coun-
cil events. We can't control those who have dropped out of the
KofC this year, but we do control the number of new members
that we can recruit. Each council should forget the past, and
strive to meet their membership and insurance goals to ensure
a successful Columbian year.
As our Worthy State Treasurer Ed Lichman reported at Febru-
ary's State meeting, we had 47 Polar Knights participate in the
Polar Bear Plunge this year, raising over $16,000 for the Dela-
ware Special Olympics. In the 3 years he's chaired this event,
the Delaware KofC has raised $35,899 to benefit these admira-
ble athletes. Great going Ed!
The Souper Bowl collection in our parishes on Super Bowl
Sunday provided more than 16,000 pounds of food to the
needy in our local communities. This program has grown in
leaps and bounds since it's humble beginnings at Coffee Run
Council, and brother Jerry Safranski is to be congratulated for
his fine job of carrying on the tradition begun by brothers Tony
Casera and Hank Steenkamer.
There are still plenty of State activities coming up for the enjoy-
ment of our KofC families. Just a few are:
PROGRAM DIRECTOR NOTES
New Assembly to be formed in Smyrna
Councils 6543 (Old Bohemia), 7517 (Brother
Vincent) and 12509 (Our Lady of Guadalupe)
will form a new assembly in Smyrna.
There was much enthusiasm expressed at a
preliminary meeting held March 6, and wide
acceptance by all for the assembly name of
"Our Lady Queen of Peace". A nominating
committee consisting of Jim Mullen (6543), Bill
Dooner (7517) and Joe Mucklin (12509) will
contact prospective members for nominations
to assembly offices. The formation meeting is
scheduled for Tuesday, April 3 to elect officers,
establish a meeting night, dues, etc. We wish
these Sir Knights well in this endeavor.
Statewide Installation of Assembly Officers 2007-2008
The Master has announced that newly elected Assembly Officers for
the 2007-08 Columbian Year will be jointly installed on Saturday, July
29, 2007, in Smyrna, Delaware. District Friar, Rev. Philip L. Siry, will
concelebrate the Installation Mass at noon with Assembly Friars at St.
Polycarp Church. A luncheon reception will follow in the church hall.
Fourth Degree by-laws require that all assembly elections be held in
May of each year.

2007 Exemplification Scheduled for November 17, 2007

The Fourth Degree Exemplification will be at the Dover Sheraton Hotel
on Saturday, November 17, 2007. This is an excellent facility for this
district program and is conveniently situated in the middle of the State.
As the date draws closer, the program agenda will be published and
reservation information will be made available.

We hope that all eligible Knights will take this opportunity to receive
our Order's highest Degree of Patriotism. Applications are obtainable
from all Fourth Degree Officers and members.
Fraternally Yours,
Ralph L. Rossi, Sr., PSD
