Dear Brother Knights,
So many of you did so much in January, February and March that I am sure that I did
not thank everyone. I wish to express my gratitude and say "thank you" for all you did.
     * Our Chaplains Dinner very successful---95 people attended; including 25 members
of our clergy. Joe McCann, as usual, did a great job!
     * Winter Weekend Get-away--Hats off to Jerry Poore , Ron Thomson and all others
that pitched in to help make this a very relaxing stay until Ed Lichman and his Polar
Plungers did their thing. Ed convinced 47 like-minded people to raise over $16,000 for
Special Olympics.
     * The Super Bowl Food Drive set a record this year for the volume of food contrib-
uted due to the number of councils and the leadership of Jerry Safranski and his com-
mittee.
     * Mark Fontana did a fantastic job of recognizing PSD William J. McClafferty for his
50 years of dedicated service to the Mission Breakfast. Mark and Peter Fitzgerald,
DD#1 made this year's breakfast a big success. Thank you and all brother Knights from the various councils for
all you did.
     * David June, GK from Becker, chaired this year's Free Throw Contest. Over 120 children competed for
State Awards. 25 Brother Knights assisted and helped to make this event run smoothly.
     * Frank Joyce ran the most successful Vocation Essay Contest yet! All seven Catholic high schools com-
peted for the first time as did 18 elementary schools/Religious Ed Programs at the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, & 9th grade levels
for State honors. Thank you to all participating councils.

Our most immediate concern is to defeat SB 5 (Embryonic Stem Cell Research). We do not believe in de-
stroying human life. All known cures to date have come from adult stem cells which are gotten from bone mar-
row, placenta, and the umbilical cord. It is said that seventy cures have been found to date and are awaiting the
government's approval. No embryonic stem cell research has resulted in any cures! Please call your State
Representative and State Senator and tell them we are against this research for moral reasons. We do
not oppose adult stem cell research.

This year's State Convention is being run by the State Council and not just a council. We need the
revenue from the sale of ads by all councils to help keep the convention cost down. If your council
sells 10 full pages of ads, you will receive a full convention package worth over $400. Supreme rules will
not allow ads from Life, Annuity or Long-term care insurance carriers.
