TOOTSIE ROLLS DRIVE
Has your Council to conducted or plan to conduct a Tootsie Roll
Drive?
The ENTIRE proceeds raised should be sent to the State Tootsie Roll
Chairman by May 1, 2007, no deductions; the State will pay the cost
of Tootsie Rolls and aprons. The state will remand 25% from each
Council to be donated to the Delaware Special Olympics. Councils
must name the recipients for the 75% that each Council can award;
only charities involved with helping mentally retarded citizens can be
designated. The State Secretary will then return checks to Councils for
their named charities for Council distribution. These procedures
assure compliance with IRS regulations. Also, please verify that
donation recipients conform with Knights of Columbus ideologies,
including embryonic stem cell research.
As part of the program, your Council's help is also needed at other
Special Olympics Delaware and Delaware Foundation Reaching
Citizens With Cognitive Disabilities (DFRC) programs:

CHESS TOURNAMENT
Thanks to the generosity of seven Delaware Knights of Colum-
bus Councils, State Council was able to present the Emmanuel
Dining Room with 40 pies for their annual Christmas Dinner for
the Poor, plus a check for $207 to be used as needed. The
pies were picked up at Serpe's Bakery in Elsmere on Sunday
morning, December 24, delivered to the Emmanuel Dining
Room, and served on Christmas day to 200 + guests. Various
members of the Serpe family are brother Knights, and provide
the pies at a discount.
The Emmanuel Dining Room program is administered by the
Ministry of Caring Inc., comprised of three facilities that provide
nutritious meals daily to the hungry. The original Dining Room
opened in 1979. There are two Wilmington locations: on the
west side at 121 North Jackson Street, and on the east side at
226 North Walnut Street, and one New Castle location at 500
Rogers Road. The heart of the program is the ongoing support
of over 90 churches, synagogues and civic groups that prepare
and serve meals on a rotating basis.
All Ministry of Caring programs offer hospitality and friendship,
while striving to meet basic needs, and help the poor attain
self-sufficiency. Staff and volunteers minister to the poor by
offering them not only the necessities of life: food, shelter, and
employment, but also by helping restore their sense of self
worth and hope for the future.

The Ministry of Caring Inc. is committed to serving the ongoing
needs of the poor: food for the hungry, shelter, transitional
living, and permanent housing for the homeless, jobs for the
unemployed, clothing and furniture for the needy, child care for
homeless children, medical and dental services for the poor,
and advocacy as well as outreach for the disenfranchised.
