We are about two thirds through the fraternal year and have accomplished a lot. Our most sig-
nificant effort was to defeat the Embryonic Stem Cell Bill for which I give my strongest thanks to
all who wrote and called legislators. The Knights were a major factor in its defeat. We also had a
major accomplishment with the Katrina Relief effort in which Knights and council donated over
$22,000. We supported the Diocese in the pilgrimage to Ocean City and had many successful
State and Council functions and we have many more yet to be done this year. This is what the
Knights do; they support the Church, our families and the community. By doing the good work
we do we are better Catholics and closer to Our Lord Jesus Christ.
That is what makes joining the Knights of Columbus an "Experience of a Lifetime". I encourage
every Knight and family member to reach out to that neighbor, relative or coworker and ask him
to consider joining. You don't have to convince the prospective man to join, just get him to come
to an Information Meeting or agree to let a couple brother Knights come to his house and explain
the advantages to joining the Knights of Columbus. All you need to do is spark some interest and suggest that he let you
take him to the information meeting or just give his name to the Council Membership Director or Grand Knight.
God Bless You All,

During the holy season of Lent, we journey to Easter. In life we journey to our Easter of eternity.
This season of grace is a time for us to follow Christ daily, deny ourselves, and to take up our
cross. In Luke 9:23, Jesus said "If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself and
take up his cross daily and follow me."
Only in the gospel of St. Luke do we find the word "daily" in Christ's invitation to discipleship.
When Luke wrote his gospel, the focus was on the daily demands of Christian living than on im-
minent martyrdom.
The journey we are invited to take may include failure to live up to the ideals of discipleship or the
reluctance to carry the cross when we feel tired, discouraged or hurt. Like St. Peter, we may
deny Jesus when faced with danger or ridicule, or even betray him as Judas did, for money.
The trouble with life is that it is so daily. The grind, the boredom, the fatigue, the clash of personalities in the work place, the
