SOD Seeking Volunteers
Special Olympics of Delaware is
seeking volunteers to help with
their Soccer Skills Competition,
escorting the athletes from skill
station to skill station in a compe-
tition. The two dates are Tuesday
October 25 at Howard T Ennis
School in Georgetown and Thurs-
day October 27 at University of
Delaware- Rullo Stadium. Activi-
ties are from 9:30 am to 2:00 pm.
Lunch will NOT be provided by
Special Olympics.
We need as many as 30 people at
each site. I am asking that GKs
in the Councils near the sites ask
their Community Director to call
the men in the council to get 4 or
5 guys from each Council. Wives
and other people are certainly
welcome to help. Please check
with your members and let me
know how many people may be
coming so that we may notify the
Special Olympics.
Also, if one of the Councils would
consider donating lunch for the
volunteers, they would love you a
lot.
Eucharistic Congress
I strongly encourage all Knights and their families to be a part of the
Diocese of Wilmington's Eucharistic Congress that will take place on Oc-
tober 29, 2005 at the Ocean City, MD Convention Center from 9:00 AM
to about 5:30 PM. Lunch will be provided and buses are available. The
cost is $10/person, $20/family of 3 or more if registered before September
30. After September 30, cost goes to $15/person, $25/family (buses are
extra). No registration will be accepted after October 17, 2005. You can
register through your parish or directly through the Diocese (payment
must be included).
I have had the privilege to hear the keynote speaker, Cardinal McCar-
rick, several times before. You will be entertained, informed and in-
spired by him, he is a terrific speaker. If you go onto the Diocesan web
site
www.cdow.org
you can read about each of the speakers in the break-
out sessions.
The Knights are being asked to take an active part in the Eucharistic
Congress. Our Color Corp has been asked to provide an honor guard for
the Adoration Chapel and to be part of the procession in the Sacred Lit-
urgy. In addition, the Knights have been requested to serve as ushers.
This will be a joint effort with the Maryland jurisdiction. The Knights
are being asked to supply 40 ushers and 40 Color Corp. Master Bill
Lawler is working with the Master of MD to coordinate the Color Corp.
The ushers need to be identified at the time of registration and I must be
notified with the name and Council number. To accomplish this on the
registration form (for which your whole family can sign up) circle your
name and at the top write the note "Circled name is KofC USHER".
Then send me a note with your 1) name, 2) date registration was mailed,
3) and Council name and number to: Jim Gardner, SD, 7 Sunrise Dr.,
Newark, DE 19711
One final thing about ushers, they MUST be at the Conference Center by
7:30 AM for instructions. There will be more information later on trans-
portation, whether it is by car pool or bus. The Diocese has a number of
buses available but they will be leaving too late for ushers. We will find
a way to get the ushers there on time.
